This game was fun to play. My only complaint is a bug I encountered where I couldn't stop looking at the lyrics on the wall in Josh's Demons. Otherwise, great game, and I look forward to finishing it!
Thank you so much for playing and for the kind words! Advice I would give to get started is to find a game engine that works for you. I've been using Unity for a while and I think that's a great place to start for beginners to get their feet wet in game making. There are so many youtube videos about making games in Unity that I've watched. That's how I started so I'd start there! (It's also a free software so that's a plus, it has payed options but I've been using the free version). As far as pixel art one of the best programs that I've used is Aseprite. It's $14.99 but it's well worth the price. Before I used Aseprite I used Piskel, which is a free alternative for pixel art. You use it in browser and it's awesome to mess around with to make pixel art. Most importantly I'd say just have fun, experiment, try out as much as possible. Game making is super fun and rewarding, but it's also very challenging, so making sure to not take things too seriously at times and to have fun is a must. These are just the softwares that I've used and that work best for me, but if you find things that work better for you that I didn't mention then that's awesome! I hope this helps :)
